Opportunity to Help: Looking to Find Ways to Help Homeless People in Detroit

(via Kolby Jenkins)

Kolby Jenkins is an 11-year-old member of the Better Detroit Youth Movement (BDYM), and she is one of the most ambitious members of the group.

Kolby and her mother were going around Detroit and noticing a lot of homeless people.  She took these observations and proposed several ideas.

Identify Shelter Possibilities: Detroit has a lot of buildings in good shape that are abandoned.  She asked why can we not use some of these buildings to provide shelter for homeless people in Detroit.

Donate Food: All of us tend to throw away food.  Perhaps, we can organize a food drive to help feed the homeless.

Volunteer Mentors: Providing food and shelter to people in Detroit is great, but we are only helping their needs today without really helping them tomorrow.  Maybe, we can round up people who might be able to help homeless people in Detroit find ways to rescue themselves from their current situation.

This all came from an 11-year-old.  Those are mighty big thoughts.  Can we find ways to help Detroit in as big of a way?
