Father Figures come together for the 5th Annual Labor Day March for Fatherhood

Detroit – August 13, 2013 – "Today, I pledge to get better, do better, and be the best 24/7 Dad" is the National Pledge to be repeated during the 5th Annual Labor Day “March for Fatherhood” hosted by the Detroit-based organization The Good Fathers Only, in support of good fathers everywhere.  The march takes place on Monday, September 2, 2013.

“Our theme this year is “Father Figure,” said Calvin Mann, founder and CEO of The Good Fathers Only.  “We want to be examples of what a good father is, making it so cool to be a father, and demonstrating that fatherhood is a real positive position to be in.”

The Annual Labor Day “March for Fatherhood” is in conjunction with the Global Initiative Million Fathers March, an initiative of the Black Star Project out of Chicago, which celebrates men taking children to school on the first day of school.

We have found when men are involved in a child’s life, the success of that child increases and crime is reduced,” Mann said. “We celebrate because we are Good Fathers.”

Fatherhood organizations, men’s church groups, and all Detroit area fathers are encouraged to join the march. There is no registration fee to participate, but those interested are encouraged to wear the march’s signature colors red and white or purchase an event tee-shirt, with the words “Father Figure” on the front and “I Am Superman” on the back, to wear while marching.

The 5th Annual Labor Day “March for Fatherhood” is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, September 2, 2013. The march begins at Michigan Avenue and Trumbull, the site of the old Tiger Stadium, and continues east on Michigan Avenue into downtown Detroit to an as yet undisclosed location. For more information and to purchase a tee-shirt, visit The Good Fathers Only website at www.thegoodfathersonly.com or call Calvin Mann at (313) 332-3323.
